Jake arrived at our home in San Francisco after a long drive from the southernmost part of California. November 7 was also the day that the networks all called the election for Biden. On the drive home we listened to Harris’ and Biden’s speeches. New beginnings all around!
Jake made his journey in a travel crate. When we got home around 11 pm, we set down his crate in the kitchen and closed off the room. We both spent about two hours sitting on the floor with Jake and getting him comfortable with his new environment.
The intention was to introduce each part of the house slowly, though at one point he made it into the dining room, and promptly ran around the room peeing. You’ve seen video of parents chasing the toddler who runs away without a diaper in full-stream… this was the dog equivalent. Also the first time we got to see Jake’s playful energy in the house. Mainly he was relieved to be relieving himself but also seemed to convey a sense of mischeviousness in the moment.
Once he was back in the kitchen it was clear he did not need to be moved again that night, so we slept on the kitchen floor with him. (Mark outlasted John but one of us with with him all night.)
